Hi,
I am in the process of moving my blog to a new hosting service and updating to the latest wordpress release and decided to change theme. I discovered your Autumn Concept and really like its layout and colors.
I am trying to add an html text widget to the right hand side but when I do, the image it displays, overlaps the calendar instead of just bumping the calendar down. ? Do you know if this is an issue with this theme?
Is it possible with this theme to replace to image in the header. I’ve used a photo of Sunflower from my garden for a long time on my blog, although this photo on the theme is very nice.
Thanks,
Tony Lorenzen

Ed Merritt says:
@Tony: the colours and header image are designed to be customised in this theme – not sure how much you know about css, but take a look at the first section of the css file and have a play – it should be pretty straight forward.
As for the text-widget, just add this line to your css file:
.textwidget {display: block; float: left; width: 100%;}

Hello Ed,
My client (link above) liked the look of your theme, so I’m customizing it. He’s very happy with the look in IE, but the header graphic is collapsing in FF. Right-clicking to “view background graphic” opens the image by itself in the window, so the link is correct. Image and JS settings in FF are default. Returning to the original stylesheet doesn’t fix the problem. I’m at a loss where to look for a solution. Hoped you might take a look.

Ed Merritt says:
Hi Lynn, it seems a bit cheeky to remove the credit link in the footer and then ask for my help with the theme, but I’m feeling nice today…
The image has collapsed because you’ve removed all content from
<div class="cols03">which dictates the width of the header. The fix is simply to remove the class from this div so it no longer floats left.
7th March 2008 at 3:29 pm
LynnS says:
Thank you, glad I caught you on a good day.
My cheeks are ample, good guess. I haven’t removed the link, it’s simply commented out because I’m not putting my link there either, and I don’t want people contacting you for help with the site. I figure anyone with enough savvy to be interested in the theme will know to look at the source.
with appreciation,
Lynn

PS: For the sake of anyone who has the same issue: the diagnosis was correct, but removing the div class didn’t quite work. I added some content to the , in the form of a non-breaking space. Yeah, a hack, but it looks good now. Love the way the header resizes to fit the window!

I would like to put an adsense script into the sidebar area of the Autumn Concept theme. As a quick aside, I love the theme. I am new to modifying blog themes and may be making naive and foolish mistakes, so please forgive me. Is there a specific file I need to paste the java script into to apply the adsense? Thanks in advance.

Hello Ed,
I’m translating Autumn Concept to French. If you want, I can send it back to you when it’s done, so that other people can take benefit of it.
I’ve done all text translation, but now, I’m stuck with the buttons translations. Which font did you use in the images ? Can you send it to me, if it’s a windows font ?
And thank you for the great job. Your theme is just beautiful.

I like the theme you created and I am planning on using it on my web site.
I would like to know how to make the pull down menu (child of page) work on IE6. It works in IE7 and Firefox however.
Also, where can I get instructions documentation?
The Usage Instructions link on this page

returned an error.

Awesome theme, I love the relaxed feel it has.
I was wondering though, with the latest releases of WP, is there any way to integrate the prepackaged widgets with the sidebar you put in? I love the drop down archive menu but there’s no way to keep it in the sidebar.

Hi! I like your theme and would like to use it for a personal website. But I would like to use WordPress strictly as a CMS and not as a blog. How can I remove the top part? I don’t need anyone logging in. Also, I have tried to disable comments, but for some reason the “Comments” buttons won’t disappear completely – some parts of them would still remain visible. I have never used WordPress before and this is my first attempt to use it as a CMS. Thank you.

Hi,
Love the theme all in all!
Having some trouble with images inserted in posts – text wraps around them no matter what I do, and images wrap around each other if they’re small enough. I thought it was my coppermine bridge, but the pics display correctly in the WP default theme, so I’m guessing its probably something in the way the content floats for the post text?
I’m only learning to do CSS; any suggestions on quick edits that might stop the photo wrapping?

Hey ED,
Thanks for the wonderful template.
The credit link: http://edmerritt.com/wordpress/?page_id=49
is returning an error. Is there a new url which I could use.
Also, i just noticed if I turn on the read on on the articles, the side bar will get bumped to beneath the body (instead of being retained at the side). Any idea what would have caused that?
Again. Thanks!

Ed,
I’d like to echo the comment posted previously regarding the missing ABOUT.TXT in the Autumn Concept download file. Also, the link from the theme installation page to “Usage Instructions” (http://edmerritt.com/wordpress/?page_id=49) is not working. I’d really appreciate the instructions on usage so that I can make utilize this template to the fullest. By the way, although I’m now a Florida resident where it truly is sunny, I was born in Southampton and have relatives living in Bournemouth. I can’t remember a sunny day there…

Ed,
Thanks so much for your work on this theme – it’s exactly what I was looking for. I’ll look for the new ABOUT.TXT file – trying to do a very little editing of the theme. Here’s what I’m trying to do:
1) indent “blockquote” as in your Ocean Mist theme
2) increase the size of the text in the blog post itself a little bit
3) Reduce the size of the link categories in my sidebar to instead of
To do this, I added these two lines to the style.css file:
blockquote {padding: 0 10px; margin: 0px 12px 0px 48px}
.cols02 {font-size:1.1em}
Did a trial run with the style.css file in my html editor, and the changes seemed to work when I previewed the page, but when I uploaded the new style.css file to my web server, I didn’t observe any change.
I’m very new to this, so am almost certainly missing something basic. Thanks for any help.

A very nice theme, but I’m running into two problems:
1) If you have a lot of tabs in the page menu under the header, and you resize the text so that the page menu goes to two rows, you cannot select from the drop-down menu of a tab in the top half if there is a page menu item underneath in the second row.
2) The two-column format doesn’t seem to work in IE7: the sidebar appears under the posts.

I recently set up a website for my oldest daughter (6 1/2 yrs) and your theme was the best of the ones. However, we have some problems with pictures in both FF and IE not centring in the post (is centred when writing the post) and the text wrapping when not wanted (again okay in the visual editor). The second is issues in FF when in the Comment section which I think also has to do with the pictures. The “Name” field of the new comment section is attached to the bottom of the text of the post, not next to the field title in the “Leave a Reply” section. You can see this at using FF 3:

Any thoughts or solutions would be greatly appreciated.

Ed,
Wonderful theme which I love. I’m using on a charity site, http://www.ojbarry.org.
I’m having a little difficulty. We want to remove the Recent Posts and Recent Comments from the second sidebar. (I’m a web designer comfortable with HTML) I first commented the code and then deleted it from “sidebar2.php” but they are still showing on the page.
Can you give me any hints of how I might address this?
Thanks,
Chris

Hi Ed,
Looking for that About file as well.
Also, in IE 6, the sidebar goes below the content.
It was recommended that I add: overflow:hidden;
to the sidebar instructions in the CSS Style sheet, but I don’t even see a #sidebar there.
What can I do?
Anybody have a solution?
Thanks for a great theme.

A Malvern, Pennsylvania Neighborhood
However, when I looked for #strapline in the main CSS I could not find the id. How do I change the size of the text?

I like the look and feel of this Theme a lot. This is my third (almost) post here. Each other time, I figured out my question before it hit send. THis time, not so much luck. I am trying to get kPicassa to work with ocean mist. I almost does. When I get to the point where I select an image in an album and want Highslide to take over, i just get the redirect to the image in a new window.
Could this me a theme interaction? I’ve also tried just standalone highslide implementations with the same result. I do acknowledge that it is likely that I’ve set up something improperly.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
